Mohammad Irfan, Pakistan’s quick bowler has got into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Indian Premier league team of the Kolkata Knight Riders to feature in the fourth season of the tournament. The team now needs to wait before the IPL governing council announces the new rules for the contracts with the international cricketers.
So far, the rules stipulated that the teams could get into a contract with non-international cricketer on their own. Only the international cricketers were put into the auction pools.
What remains to be also seen is whether Irfan gets the no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Pakistan Cricket Board. If Irfan does get an NOC and is able to participate in the next IPL, it could pave way for the participation of the other Pakistani cricketers as well; none of whom had featured in the previous IPL. While the 26/11 attacks of 2008 had ensured frosty relations between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and subsequent prohibition of the cricketers from travelling to India, the 2010 edition had seen none of the IPL teams bid for the Pakistani cricketers. This had caused much tension between the PCB and the Indian cricket board and the matter had escalated to the two governments.
Irfan's MOU consists of a clause that will pay him $10,000 should the Pakistanis not be allowed to feature in the next edition as well. His contract could be worth $75,000.
Speaking to the PTI, Irfan said, “All the formalities of the deal with Kolkata Knight Riders have been finalised, but now I require a NOC from the board to finalise the deal."
At around seven feet tall, Irfan is one of the tallest to have ever played the game of cricket at this level. He was one of the bowlers on the development tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292 – a former Pakistani bowler. Akram, who is also a bowling consultant of the Kolkata Knight Riders side, had recommended him to the franchise, who had moved in hastily to sign him up.
