Mohammad Siddikur confident of his chances at Indonesian Masters – Asian Tour news
Bangladesh’s young rising star Mohammad Siddikur has played exceptionally well recently. He has also improved his rankings in Asia and played well at the Maybank Malaysian Open by finishing 8th in the event.
This was another brilliant performance by the 26-year-old from Dhaka. Siddikur had a couple of victories when he was an amateur. Since he turned professional, his game has improved a lot which has also rewarded him.
Siddikur’s first Asian Tour victory came in 2010 at the Brunei Open where he was completely dominant against his opponents. His hard work and practice on the range has certainly shown great results. After the Malaysian Open 2011, he is placed at the second
spot on the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
So far, it has been quite an achievement for him as he has played against the best in the world. His target now will be the Indonesian Masters which starts from Thursday. He is looking forward to it and is confident of continuing his form at the tournament.
Siddikur was the first player from his country to have won an event on the Asian Tour. The youngster has certainly made his country proud of him due to his performance.
It was another small achievement for him as he finished ahead of the world number one Martin Kaymer in the Malaysian Open. This surely gave a boost to his confidence who carded under-par rounds on all the four days. The Bangladeshi had a four-day score of
nine-under par, 279 and was one shot better than Kaymer.
He will be now be competing in the Indonesian Open which will be a challenge for him as it will feature top ranked players of Asia. World number two Lee Westwood will also be among the contenders.
The 26-year-old was more than satisfied with his past performance in Malaysia. He was also ahead of players like Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel and The Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen.
Although Siddikur was not in contention for a win in Malaysia but he still picked up a cheque of US$ 62,500 as he moved second on the Asian Tour Order of Merit which is led by Shiv Shankar Prasad Chowrasia.
Lee Westwood and Asia’s top ranked golfer, Thongchai Jaidee will be the spotlight of the Indonesian Masters. Jaidee was satisfied with his performance in the Malaysian Open where he finished at the 17th spot. The Thai managed to card some under
par rounds after the first day which improved his position.
As Siddikur has a couple of top 10 finishes in recent tournaments, he certainly will be the player to watch out for in the Indonesian Masters.
Siddikur said, “I’m happy to finish in the top-10 and show the world that a player from Bangladesh can perform in such a big event. I’m getting better and my confidence level is high.”
It will be a little tough for the Brunei Open winner but one expects him to lay down a good fight on the field against his opponents. Let’s see if he manages to do that.
