http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s discarded middle-order batsman, Mohammad Yousuf, has denied the reports about his retirement from international cricket and made it clear that this is his personal decision and will call it a day at the right time.
Yousuf is considered to be one of the finest batsmen produced by the country, having scored more than 17 thousand runs at the highest stage of the game, with the help of 39 centuries. The cricketer from Lahore last represented Pakistan during the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) and was dropped from the national team as he failed to satisfy the selectors with his fitness.
The national selection committee has made it clear multiple times that the great batsman will have to prove his form and fitness in domestic cricket; however, the middle-order batsman has not played a single first-class match since the last two years.
There were rumours earlier this week about the former captain’s retirement from international cricket but Yousuf has categorically denied all such news.
“It is a reality that I am not playing cricket for the last three years but I am in good level of fitness by doing daily work out and as far as my retirement is concerned I have not yet announced it,” said the stylish right-handed batsman. “These (news) are just baseless and contrary to the facts and I think calling it a day is a personal decision of a player and the others should respect it.”
There are very few players in the history of Pakistan cricket who have been given a proper farewell by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Yousuf, who is a world-record holder for scoring most number of runs in a calendar year, thinks that a player having served his country for so many years deserves acknowledgement and appreciation.
“A number of great players including former speed king, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292 left the game of cricket and nothing was done by the PCB to acknowledge their achievements,” he added while talking to APP.
It remains to be seen whether the great batsman takes part in the next domestic season or not.
