Mohammad Yousuf lashes out at PCB for hindering domestic return – Cricket News Update
Pakistan's former Test captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB), for not letting him play in the ongoing first-class tournament, President's Trophy.
The veteran middle order batsman has not played international cricket for Pakistan since November 2010, when he played an ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 at Lord’s, in which three Pakistan players conspired few deliberate no balls.
The 38-year-old right-handed batsman has not even been considered for national selection since then due to various reasons, primarily form and fitness. Recently he requested the board to consider him as well for selection. The board asked Yousuf to prove his form and fitness in domestic cricket, but did not provide him clearance for selection in Port Qasim Authority’s squad for the President’s Trophy.
"I don't understand the attitude of the board. On one hand the selectors say I must play in domestic cricket to prove my form and fitness and on other hand the board is not giving me clearance to play in the tournament," said an irked Yousuf during a media interaction on Thursday.
"I still want to play first-class cricket and I know I am good enough to make a comeback to international cricket," insisted the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 batsman, who averages above 52 with the bat in 90 Test appearances he made till August 2010.
Initially when the country’s domestic season started, some banks had offered Yousuf to join their teams but the batsman turned down the offers citing personal commitments. Recently Port Qasim Authority, which is being coached by Yousuf’s former teammate, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-Latif-c84084, requested the board to allow them to include the middle-order batsman in their squad for the President’s trophy as a special case.
"We had sent the request to the Director-General cricket, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580 and the board should at least respond and say yes or no. This is not the way to treat a legendary player like Mohammad Yousuf," Latif told media persons when reached for a comment.
