Mohawk Ridge likely to thrive in Roflow Handicap
Two decent performances during the last month perked up the Michael Dods trained bay gelding Mohawk Ridge’s confidence level to a great extent. He took few weeks to refine his skills further. Now, the six-year-old veteran horse is confident to deliver a
winning performance in the Roflow Handicap that will be held at Newcastle racecourse on Monday, August 27.
In the £2,264 Class 5 contest, the son of Storming Home out of Ipsa Loquitur will face nine rivals. The soft track of 1 mile, 6 furlongs and 97 yards is ready to host the mega marathon.
Mohawk Ridge owns a good track record as he has won 5 of his total 36 starts so far. The Doug Graham owned brilliant gelding finished 5th in each of the two back-to-back races during the month of June 2012. He grabbed a grand victory in the Racing
Again Next Wednesday Handicap that took place at Catterick on July 4. He was the 6-4 favourite for the race that went down on the soft ground.
The maverick sprinter moved ahead to gain the third spot in his last outing entitled as 127th Year of Watt Memorial Handicap. That race was held at Beverley on July 17.
Mohawk Ridge’s previous experience with the soft race conditions had been pleasant enough; thus, it is expected that he will be quite comfortable to make a big impact in the coming contest.
His only tough rival is River Dragon who has been making up to the podium constantly since the last few months. The Tony Coyle trained bay gelding nicely finished 3rd in each of the three consecutive races during February, March and April.
The brilliant son of Sadler’s Wells out of Diarshana stepped forward to gain the runner-up rank in the Traders Betting Exchange Handicap Hurdle that took place at Hexham on April 23. He was the 2-1 favourite for that event.
