Mohayer to sweep through the second start of the season in the Betfred Midlands Grand National Chase Handicap at Uttoxeter
The Class 1 Betfred Midlands Grand National Chase Handicap (Listed Race) is to be staged at Uttoxeter over four miles, a furlong and 110 yards on Saturday, 17th March. Participating today are eighteen five-year and older thoroughbreds. The purse of the race is worth £37, 018.
The most accomplished entry on the lineup has to be Mohayer, Giant’s Causeway’s ten-year-old grey gelding out of mare Karlafsha, as he comes out of two victories from the final starts that he raced through in 2011 and was pulled up from his seasonal debut.
He has not been given a chance yet to display the actual level of potential that he possesses due to the unfortunate failure that Mohayer had to encounter in the welcome race of the season.
He missed out on the Grade 3 Betfred Grand National Trial (Handicap Chase) on 18th February at Haydock over three miles and four furlongs. The race did not culminate into a victory as Mohayer could not really deliver after staying in the rear initially and then struggling hard to join the cluster that was closing in on the wire. Thus, he was pulled up soon.
Giles Cross was the 4/1 favourite winner of the race and catching up with the runner up’s position by a mere neck’s distance was Neptune Collonges. Stationing third was Le Beau Bai.
Mohayer bagged onto the two starts out of the four races that he took part in during 2011.
He won the PHS Treadsmart Handicap (Betfair Chase Series Qualifier) on 17th November 2011 at Market Rasen over two miles and six and a half furlong. Getting the race did not come easy as Mohayer led by a very narrow margin of half a length from the 5/2 favourite runner up of the race, Daldini.
Mohayer took away the next title by a reasonably significant lead of six lengths from the runner up, Kaybeew, in the Walters UK LTD Handicap Chase on 21st December at Ffos Las over three miles and one and a half furlong.
Settling third was the 15/8 favourite of the race, Horsham Lad.
The second start of the season would be far more lucrative for the ten-year-old than what he went through in the seasonal debut. Judging him by that single bad day and rendering him hopeless does not make much sense.
