Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari calls it the right time to leave the national badminton squad
Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari, the Men’s Doubles shuttler, who has resigned from the national badminton squad along with Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif, calls it the right time to leave the national badminton squad and vacate the space for younger shuttlers.
Mohd Tazari, who with his partner Ong Soon Hock, has a world ranking of Number 18 in the Men’s Doubles category, will play with his new partner and World Number 24, Mohd Zakry who also resigned from the national squad and split up with his partner, Hoon
Thien How. Now, Mohd Tazari and Mohd Zakry will play as independent shuttlers and will select the events to participate in with their own choice.
After the approval of the resignation from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), Mohd Tazari said, “We have achieved our maximum as a national senior pair together and with others and it is time to move on. We did have an option until the Olympics
but that would be unfair on our partners. They can now look for younger partners to prolong their careers.”
He further added, “There are so many back-up pairs coming through but normally, the senior pairs get to compete more due to qualification for major events and this delays the succession process. Now the back-up pairs will definitely get more opportunities
to compete.”
Mohd Tazari wants to prolong his professional career as an independent shuttler with the partnership of Mohd Zakry. The duo has been producing wonderful results in the past before they were split up by BAM and were paired together with different partners.
Now, they are together again but not under the restrictions of BAM. The duo is free to select in which tournaments they want to play without taking permission from authorities.
The veteran duo of Mohd Tazari and Mohd Zakry will make their mark in next month’s 2011 Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold. They will also participate in the Denmark Open Super Series and French Open Super Series, which will be held in the following month after
the Indonesia Open GP Gold.
