Mohd Fitri Saari and Amir Farid invited to Malaysian national senior men’s hockey training squad
Midfielder Mohamed Fitri Saari and striker Amir Farid Ahmad Puzi, the Project 2013 squad’s youngster duo, have been called by Tai Beng Hai, the coach of the national senior men’s hockey team, to join the national training squad which is in process under
his supervision for the Asian Champions Trophy to be held in China from next month.
Malaysian national team will play a five test match series against the Japanese national side which will be on its way from today August 7 at the National Hockey Stadium and will be concluded on August 14. The series will be used as a selection test for
the upcoming inaugural Asian Champions Trophy in Ordos, China, which will be played from September 3 to September 11 where they will be tested against the Asian power houses like India, South Korea and the Asian Games Champions, Pakistan. The hosts, China
and Japan will also be among the contenders.
The duo will replace the national forward Mohamed Rashid Baharom who has introverted from the national training squad and mid-fielder Mohamed Azri Hassan who was dropped due to the groin injury.
Amir Farid is 20-year-old striker who represents University Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) team while Mohamed Fitri Saari is an 18-yaer-old mid-fielder who is also the younger brother of Faizal Saari, the national mid-fielder.
“I hope to see Amir feature against Japan in the coming Test matches and give Azri time to recover from his groin injury,” Tai Beng Hai, the national team’s coach, stated about Amir Farid.
However, the coach, Tai Beng Hai, unexpectedly did not invite goal-keeper Khairulnizam Ibrahim who was awarded as the best goal-keeper in the Division One of the Tun Abdul Razak Cup which recently concluded in Malacca. While, goal-keeper Roslan Jamaluddin
who displayed a very dismal performance playing for Perak in the Razak Cup is still a part of the team along with the first choice goal-keeper S. Kumar.
The national senior men’s training squad includes the following athletes:
Faizal Saari, Azlan Misron, Hafifihafiz Hanafi, Izwan Firdaus, Tengku Ahmad Taijuddin, Ahmad Tajuddin, Mohd Firhan Ashaari, Shahrin Mohamed and Amir Farid Ahmad Puzi are the strikers.
Mohd Sukri Abdul Mutalib, Mohd Marhan Mohd Jalil, Nabil Fiqri Mohd Noor, Mohd Shahrun Nabil Abdullah, Kelvinder Singh, Mohd Fitri Abu Bakar, Mohd Azammi Adabi, Mohd Izzat Mohd Rahim and Mohd Fitri Saari arte the mid-fielders.
Mohd Amin Rahim, Azreen Rizal Nasir, Faiz Helmi Jali, Baljit Singh Charun, Mohd Madzli Ikmar Mohd Nor and Mohd Razie Abdul Rahim are the defenders while Roslan Jamaluddin and S. Kumar are the goal-keepers.
