Mohd Shaaban Hussin says he’s nervous in a press conference
Mohd Shaaban Hussin, who qualified for the first sponsors’ exemption in the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic met the press at the clubhouse of Mines Resort & Golf Club Malaysia on Thursday morning.
The player was quite nervous regarding the course, as according to him there were changes in it. He told the press, who wanted to see the sentiments of their local hero, “I feel that the course is much easier during the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia
– National Qualifier. There is tremendous changes done such as towards the mountain green, the fairways and there all completely different. During my practice rounds I also noticed certain features that weren’t there during the qualifiers but now is there”.
Mohd Shaaban Hussin turned professional in 2003 and only four months back he qualified out of the Q-school. A year prior to that, he earned his full Asian Tour card by finishing at the 65th spot in ‘Order of Merit list’. The 30-year-old finished
ninth in the Brunei Open and 11th in the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters.
The Malaysian is one of the 40 players, who will tee off at the Mines Resort & Golf Club on 28th of this month to seek the prize money of $1 million at CIMB Asia Pacific Classic. The tournament is a joint venture of PGA TOUR, Asian Tour and the
Professional Golf Association of Malaysia. Apart from him, the field comprises of top 25 players from the PGA Tour’s final FedEx Cup, top 10 players from the current Asian Tour Order of Merit and 5 sponsor exemptions.
The field is one of the strongest on the Asian circuit with names like Ryo Ishikawa, Noh Seung-Yul, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Ernie Els, Tim Clark and Adam Scott.
The tournament carrying a purse of six million will kick off in a few hours on the Mines Resort & Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur in sunny weather conditions. According to media reports, the course and hot weather might prove as a tough challenge for the European
and American players as they are not accustomed to such conditions.
