Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif – Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari confident to qualify for 2012 London Olympics
Malaysia’s experienced shuttlers Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif and Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari are confident to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics. The event is set to take place at the Wembley Arena in London, England, next year.
The Men’s Doubles’ World Number 26 Mohd Zakry and World Number 40 Mohd Tazari have joined forces after leaving the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). They are now independent shuttlers and are free to participate in any international tournament they
want. They are no more under the restrictions of the BAM.
Mohd Tazari and Mohd Zakry have signed a sponsorship deal with KLRC, which presented the best offer to the shuttlers. They have also hired the services of Razif Sidek as their coach, who will train them for the Olympic Games.
Both shuttlers have been playing for many years with different partners. Mohd Tazari has been participating in different events with Ong Soon Hock and Mohd Zakry was the partner of Hoon Thien how. Both shuttlers have left their partners to join hands and
will continue playing as independent players.
While talking about their sponsorship, Mohd Tazari said, “We have joined KLRC to continue our journey as players with the ultimate aim of qualifying for next year’s Olympic Games. The deal will see us competing in many international tournaments with the
cost fully funded by KLRC.”
They believe that under the supervision of Razif, the chances of qualifying for the Olympic Games are bright.
Mohd Zakry said, “We want to qualify this time after missing out on the last Olympic Games. We are thrilled that Razif has agreed to help us. It’s good to have someone of his calibre to guide and coach us. He has not asked for any money ... all he wants
is our commitment to give our best in training.”
Now, the pair will start participating in different international events to earn ranking points to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games. Both shuttlers have been playing together in the past and got good results. Now, they want to produce even better results
at the international stage while playing as independent shuttlers.
