Question:

Mohela deferment while studying abroad?

I should be eligible for the in-school deferment, but while reading the application, it says for eligible schools. My school is in the UK, so this would make filling out the City/State/Zip blank on the form a bit awkward.

Am I still eligible for deferment while pursuing my Masters in the UK?

  1. Hey,

Yes, your loans will be deferred while you pursue your Master's Degree in the UK. An authorized officer from your Graduate School must certify that you will be attending the university and can only do so when you are physically there. Once there, you may submit you in-school deferment form to your loan lender/provider.

  2. It depends.  Your loan can only be deferred if you are attending an eligible institution.  If the school you are attending in the UK is one approved by the US Department of Education then you shouldn't have a problem.  However, if it's not, then you may have to apply for a forbearance.  Go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/FSLoo... and search for the school you will be attending.  If it's listed you shouldn't have a problem.
