The Indian Premier League has included former Indian all-rounder Mohinder Amarnath in their governing council after two former cricketers, Sunil Gavaskar and MAK Pataudi refused to give their consent to
join the council. Amarnath will be the second cricketer after Shastri to be a part of the IPL governing council and he will be there for a period of one year.
Until last season, there were three former cricketers as a part of the IPL governing council including Shastri, Gavaskar and Pataudi. However, the Indian cricket board decided to do away with the salaries
for the governing council members, which was not acceptable to both, Gavaskar an Pataudi. Both refused to join the council and that allowed the board to request Amarnath to be a part.
Speaking to the PTI, Amarnath said: “I have given my consent to the BCCI about joining the IPL governing council. Neither I am ecstatic nor indifferent. I have always been honest and sincere in whatever
I have done.”
Amarnath also added that he would also be satisfied if he could look to ensure that the sport of cricket remained clean.
However, Amarnath said that the IPL had not yet briefed him about what his exact role in the council would be. He said that he had only given his consent to join the council on Friday and would be too early
to say anything. He said, “I will first have to know exactly how I will be functioning and what exactly will be my role in the governing council.”
Amarnath hasn’t had a great relationship with the cricket board in recent times. When the Indian board was looking at appointing a new coach after the retirement of John Wright, Amarnath had thrown his name
in the hat, but it was turned down in favour of Greg Chappell. Chappell was given the sack before he had completed his tenure but Amarnath did not get his chance even after that as first Lalchand Rajput was appointed as an interim coach and then http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527
