Mohsin Khan counts on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Akhtar-c90080 to deliver in World Cup 2011
Pakistan Chief Selector Mohsin Khan has reiterated his trust in the abilities of aging pacer Shoaib Akhtar by saying that the Rawalpindi Express is a match winner.
Pakistan’s selection committee retained the 36-year old Akhtar in the team for the ICC World Cup 2011 in a bid to take full advantage of his pace bowling in the absence of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Aamer-c76569. The duo along with ex-captain Salman Butt has been
banned from international cricket by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after they were found guilty of involvement in spot-fixing during http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 in August 2010.
Akhtar will spearhead Pakistan’s pace attack with fellow pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wahab-Riaz-c2775 in this year’s mega event.
Talking to newsmen, Khan praised Akhtar saying, “Shoaib Akhtar, otherwise called Rawalpindi Express, is still good at his line and length and is still the world’s fastest bowler around. He can give us great results in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.”
Khan reiterated that there was no compromise on the players’ fitness level and the selection committee led by him had only selected players who were at the top of their fitness for cricket’s global event. He rebuffed rumours that Akhtar was not fully fit.
“No compromise would be made on fitness like we did not compromise on great player like Mohammad Yousuf. If any of the players got unfit the PCB has an alternate from 30 probables. So we can manage it easily as all stand-by players are fit enough,” he said.
The chief selector was pleased by Pakistan’s performance against Bangladesh in the first warm-up match which his team won by 89 runs.
Akhtar has in the past suffered from many career ending injuries. However, he has always managed to bounce back and leave everyone awe struck with his tremendous game. Before the World Cup, the Rawalpindi Express insisted that he was fully fit and was paying
full attention in retaining top-notch fitness till the end of the World Cup.
According to Akhtar, this will be his last World Cup and he wants to play all the matches without breaking down. The speedster is confident that he will give a commendable performance for his country. He also said he would be bowling at the opposition with
speeds touching 150 Kph, rattling any batsman that came in his way.
The World Cup was inaugurated yesterday in Dhaka, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Bangladesh on 19th February (tomorrow).
