Mohsin Khan dismisses claims of being a “dummy selector”

The chairman of the PCB has been ruling the cricket board carte blanche, and it is a fact admitted by many former cricketers who have been a part of his board, that he governs the cricketing body like a one-man army.
The decision of the selection committee to announce the names of the players to take part in the tour against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 before the conclusion of the domestic T20 tournament has been heavily castigated. Critics argue that there should be some sort of motivation
for the domestic players to have the assurance of being included in the national side if they perform well. However, the decision of the selectors to announce the team before the conclusion of the tournament, they said would have a detrimental effect on the
morale of the youngsters.
Younis Khan finally paved his way into the side, after his pending decision with the PCB was amicably resolved. He has now replaced Mohammad Yousaf in the side, for the latter is suffering from a muscle tear. Mohsin Khan, was quick to announce in a press
conference today the inclusion of Younis Khan in the national side, after the veteran batsman was cleared by the PCB.
However, little did he know that he would come under the line of fire from aggravated reporters who questioned his role in the PCB and that of Mr http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128. Many contentious questions were thrown at the astounded Selector who hit back at claims that he was
Mr Ijaz Butt’s stooge. Mohsin Khan and his tenure as the chief selector has been under scrutiny. Many have claimed that he is biased and non – consultative during the selection process. He came under heavy scrutiny after the coach and the captain were marginalized
during the recent selection of players for the tour against South Africa in Dubai.
Mohsin Khan during a hearing with the standing committee of sports in the national assembly, claimed that “It is not in my contract to consult the captain and coach”. Waqar Younis had earlier expressed his displeasure for not being consulted. Mohsin Khan
defended himself by stating that he personally felt that the coach and the captain should be involved, however it depended on the policy. They were not consulted, since the captain had not been named and the coach was out of country. When they came back, he
consulted them.
Consultations with the coach and the captain, resulted in the inclusion of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahzaib-Hasan-c2488 and Wahab Riaz for the ODI’s against South Africa. Shahzaib made his way back into the national side, after his recent performance in the T20 tournament where he scored
a century and two half centuries to help his side reach the finals.
Mohsin Khan also defended the decision to announce the team ahead of the conclusion of the T20 tournament, insisting that the focus was not on the T20’s but rather, the Tests and ODI’s. He also noted that Shahzaib was included before in the national side,
however he failed to perform in the international circuit.
"Shahzaib is a talented guy so we brought him in. We picked him earlier for the Asia Cup and England tour but he disappointed there and we didn't pick him again. But we feel there is a very good player in him and his T20 performance was great. The basic
concentration of this tour is not T20s but Tests and ODIs. Because the series is in Dubai, where conditions are close to Pakistan and Shahzaib is a good strokeplayer."
He has been accused of directly taking orders from Ijaz Butt, however, he rubbished those allegations completely. When asked by the reporters if he was a dummy selector, he replied harshly, “The words you have used, I could also but I don't get into that
language. I am not the chairman of the PCB, I am chairman of the selection committee and that has some rules through which you make a team. The final approval comes from the chairman and this has been happening for a long time."
