Mohsin http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 slams back at selection critics
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket team’s chief selector, Mohsin Khan has refuted the allegations of bias by the Karachi City Cricket Association against the players from the city of Karachi. Speaking to the media, Mohsin explained the rationale behind some of the decisions that were taken by the selection committee.

Mohsin explained that the team to tour UK for the Test matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482, who is from Karachi, had a definitive role to play in the selection, and the players had been chosen after discussions with Afridi.

Thursday, the KCCA had accused the selection committee and the PCB of having a bias against the players from Karachi. The association had pointed out that the only player from Karachi to be still in the squad was Tanvir Ahmed, and he was not getting his chances in the team. Afridi was also a part of the squad as a captain but he had announced his retirement after playing just one game.

Mohsin said that the reason why there are no players from Karachi in the playing XI is that Afridi retired from the game, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314’s form did not deserve a spot. Speaking of Ahmed, he said that with a line-up like Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif and Umar Gul, it was difficult for an inexperienced player like Ahmed to be a part of the playing eleven.

Mohsin also added there were many youngsters from around the country who were considered for the tour, but in the end, the captain and the selector had decided to go ahead with Azhar Ali and Umar Amin. According to Mohsin, Ali’s good technique against the swinging ball was the one factor that tilted the scales in his favour.

Speaking of Amin, the chief selector said that he was discussed at length, and the coach and the captain wanted Amin in the side and hence was picked. Mohsin said that while Faisal Iqbal was in contention, the captain had said that he had been inconsistent in his performances and hence should not be selected.

That did not deter the KCCA from protesting again, as they called for the inclusion of the likes of Asad Shafiq, Khurram Manzoor, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khalid-Latif-c71261, Mohammad Sami and Fawad Alam apart from questioning the decision to drop Kaneria after just one match.
