Chief Selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, before finalizing his decision to quit from his post.
Khan had given an ultimatum to the PCB to adhere to his demands, threatening to give in his resignation otherwise.
He was expected to announce his resignation in a press conference on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, however, he failed to appear in front of the journalists and it has been learnt that the PCB has finally convinced him to sit down and discuss the matter.
It is believed that Mohsin will now discuss the issues with Ijaz Butt before making a final decision about his future as the chief selector of the PCB.
Earlier Mohsin voiced his reservations regarding Pakistan’s selected squad for the Test series in the Caribbean, set to begin from May 12, 2011.
According to insiders the chief selector has reservations regarding the selection of wicketkeeper Mohammad Salman for the Test series in place of Adnan Akmal.
In a statement, Mohsin said, “I have asked the Pakistan Cricket Board to let me know by tomorrow afternoon whether they are making changes or not. I will resign if they are not replaced by Wednesday afternoon.”
Khan is also believed to be against retaining all-rounder Hammad Azam in the Test squad.
However, later the PCB clarified that the board was planning to hold a meeting with the chief selector to resolve all outstanding issues regarding the selection of players for the Test series in the Caribbean.
Since Ijaz Butt took over as the chairman of the PCB in 2008, Khan is the fifth chief selector. The previous four resigned, clearly showing the rift between the selection committee and the PCB authorities.
Ijaz Butt is notorious for being a hot headed chairman, running the Board how he pleases to. Selection of players is also finalized after the approval from the PCB chairman, until now Mohsin Khan has avoided confrontation with Butt on the matter of selection of players. However, this time the chief selector stood his ground and warned to quit if his demands were not met by the PCB.
