http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohsin-Hasan-Khan-c77595 urges PCB to retain Hafeez for the World Cup Twenty20 – Cricket News Update
Former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Twenty20, which will begin in September this year.
Khan expressed his views after the Green Shirts defeated the Lankans by 23 runs in the second Twenty20 to level the two-match series, 1-1. The tourists initially struggled to deliver and easily lost the opening game by 37 runs, with the batting order again
depicting signs of weakness.
In addition, the former head coach was left unimpressed with the leadership qualities of the new T20 skipper. While the Men in Green managed to share the spoils, Hafeez’s individual performances did little in helping his team – he remained wicket less in
both matches, while managed just 24 with the bat, including a first ball duck in the opening game.
“There was no need to remove http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319.
“Hafeez looked very confused and that affected his individual performance. When you hand captaincy to someone for just two games, something like this is bound to happen,” added the 57-year-old.
Khan however, had words of praise for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 after the veteran all-rounder played a match winning knock in the second T20. His performances re-ignited the debate on whether the PCB made the wrong choice - appointing Hafeez rather than Boom Boom,
“But if his (Hafeez) removal was inevitable, then Shahid Afridi was the best choice as he is vastly experienced,” said Khan.
The former national selector has further added that if the cricket board is not content with Hafeez, then they must replace him immediately. While Afridi has led the line previously, representing the national team in 34 ODIs and 19 T20s, any such move is
unlikely.
“The PCB should name the captain immediately and if it wants a change, the decision should be taken now,” said the former coach.
