Moises Fuentes to defend his WBO title for the first time against Julio Cesar Felix – Boxing News
Moises Fuentes, the current WBO minimumweight champion, will enter in his first ever title defence bout against Julio Cesar Felix, the former WBC Youth World minimumweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will be held on June 2, 2012.
The ring for the bout will be set up at Jai Alai Fronton in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico and the event is being promoted by Zanfer Promotions. The above duo will headline the showdown which will be televised live on Azteca channel and will also witness
Daniel Rosas and Enrique Bernache collide with each other in a non-title bout while constituting the co-headline event.
Moises and Julio recently met at a pre-bout press conference and shared their thoughts about the upcoming engagement. Fuentes, 26, has been in a total 15 bouts and emerged victorious in 14.
The young Mexican proud has nailed six opponents by knockout and is slightly overshadowed by his Saturday night opponent Julio. Moises grabbed the WBO title in his last bout by nailing Raul Garcia via split decision.
During the media interaction, Moises vowed that he will defend his title at all costs and stated, “I came to Tijuana to defend and keep my title. I respect ‘Gatito’ and the fans of Tijuana but I have prepared myself very well and I am going to win this fight
by any means necessary. If it is by knockout, even better.”
At the same time, Felix, also known as the ‘Gatito’, commented that it will be a very important night of his career as he will enter in his first ever title bout and in front of his home town fans.
Julio stated, “This is the fight I have always dreamed of and it is finally here. I know that Fuentes is a strong fighter but we have the skill, the preparation and the will to beat him. The fight came at the best moment of my career and I want to give the
win to my people of Tijuana, to celebrate another world title.”
Cesar has been in a total 20 bouts and boasts 17 wins. The Tijuana proud has nailed seven of his total opponents by knockout and is on a six-bout win streak since his last loss to Manuel Jimenez.
As far as the stats and proficiency is concerned, Julio has an upper hand as he is on a lengthy win streak as compared to Moises who has just collected two wins since his last loss to Juan Hernandez.
