Question:

Mojo peep sights --- taking out the insert

The mojo peep replaces the rear sight on a few different military surplus rifles (ie a mauser 48 which I am looking at)

Basically the way it is designed you have the rear sight hole which is threaded to accept a .15" aperture insert. Because of the location far away from the eye, I think it's completly worthless for hunting.

Because the aperture is an insert, I am thinking that just removing it would open the sighting hole to a more user friendly size for hunting.

Any thoughts?

The only negative I can possibly see is that you might get a blury view because you are able to see the threads. But maybe that's not an issue.

  1. it should be fine. i have used peep sights sans aperture for years. helps get on target faster. the aperture is best for longer range and accuracy. for low light or close, quick shooting, i take the aperture out.

basically the same thing as a ghost ring.

  2. People have been putting away the disc on peep sights for a century, and it works fine. I don't know about the Mojo, but I'm sure it would be just like any other. Where do you think the idea of all these "ghost ring" sights came from? that's right: peeps with the disc removed.
