Mokoka improves personal best at SA Student Athletics Championships in Stellenbosch to 27:56.18
26 year-old, enthusiastic Stephen Mokoka, improved his personal best at SA Student Athletics Championships in Stellenbosch on Friday, April 29th at a 10,000 meters’ track.
He clinched the victory by clocking 27:56.18 seconds, his new personal best. Gladwin Mzazi, his training partner, finished after him by finishing in 28:09:33 seconds.
Earlier this month, Mokoka clocked 28:06:65 seconds at Durban on April 8th. He improved more than a minute in Stellenbosch.
His recent target is to make an achievement in the Daegu challenge. After this performance, he has moved up to the fifth rank in the South African all-time list in the longest track event.
This year Mokoka started with a tight schedule. He has competed in continental and worldwide cross country championships, mostly during last month.
He is in excellent form currently. He ended the half marathon in China last Saturday, winning the silver medal by clocking 61:42 seconds.
Regarding his successful attempt, he said, "It has been a long track season already; I have raced now solidly for four months. It is time to put something back into the tank".
He wants to improve his strength and endurance, training to build-up himself for World Athletics Championship in Daegu, South Korea.
Other than Mokoka, world champion, Caster Semenya, expert in 800 meter races, attained her bid for four gold medals and is off to a solid start.
She secured a 1500 meter title among the women with the time span of 4:22:64 seconds but after that, she has been dropped down in distance to achieve 400 meter final in the time of 53:18 seconds.
Semenya’s gender issue is also getting solved day by day, following the International Association of Athletic Federations’ fresh rules and regulation. All athletes must have to obey and admit to the rules under IAAF policy.
In 100 meters meet, Simon Magakwe secured his championship title by completing the race in 10:33 seconds. He is a triple South African 100m champion.
All athletes are preparing themselves for the world challenge in South Korea which reflects on their preparation for the upcoming mega event, London Olympics 2012.
