Hello, I have a 2007 Pontiac Torrent and about two weeks ago I had noticed a mold smell, well I took it into the dealership and well the "weather strip" was defective and water and mold built up in the back under the spare tire..it is still under factory warranty and I have a two year old, what do I do, everyone tells me to fight for a new car cause mold is dangerous and bad for children and aslong as it was in their it could be in the air vents and other places....please some opinions...ahhh

  1. definitly fight for it, I have a little boy who like myself is severly allergic to mold, we actually had to move out of a house because he was deathly ill, adn it plays a big roll in respitory illness, so go fight for you and your kids, especially if it's under warranty.

  2. first off remove anything that may hold the mold like carpets and such around the mold area have these steamed cleaned and then dried

the only real way to remove the mold is to wipe it down with a antibacterial cleaner and then dry the area out

to dry it out take it in a garage as air tight as possible and throw some heaters on your going for at least 85 degrees for the temperature to get in the crevices you will need to go hotter

the chances of you even getting something like this trial are very slim even with a good attorney that you will even need to make this case respectable

but hey if you can prove that the car is unsafe because of mold go for it

    goodluck

  3. when they kill mold they have to run a disinfectant thru the vent system and in the car, similar to lysol. If this is done I wouldnt worry about getting a new car. thats not necessary

  4. Tell them you want a different car that's the same make and model payments etc. still the same because of the mold or you want them to clean the mold completly out of your car or your going to the local news station.

  5. Dude, seriously...i would fight for it! If i had a kid and that happened to me, i would be in a seriously in a "im pissed and im gonna go kick ***!!!!!" mood.  Its the factory's fault in my perspective.  They've should've tested it in the first place before selling it.  It could really s***w with your car and your kid.

  6. As long as it isn't black mold it should be ok. Also it can be cleaned and disinfected. I would just make them clean it really well, make sure the odor is gone and any signs of the mold. I am sure there are websites you can look at about mold control but I know there are people who have had mold within thier homes, some people were able to get thiers cleaned and repaired where others had to move and have the house condemned -- you see stories about things like this on tv alot. So I would just make sure there are no visible signs or odors remaining and you should be ok. It is hard not to worry when you have a child though, maybe it would make you feel a little better if you made a call to your pediatrician to ask thier opinion, your child's health is thier job and I am sure any caring physician would not care to give up a few minutes of thier day to ease your mind.

  7. Sue tha b***ards!

  8. All you need to do is contact the vehicles manufacturers customers service department and tell about this issue, they will send out an area zone manager that will look this situation over for you........

It would also be a good idea to notify your insurance company and have them be there when the zone manager comes out.

Its under warranty and they "will" take care of this for you and the insurance company can help assist you as well, good luck..
