The solubility of baking soda, NaHCO3, in water at 20'C is 9.6g/100g of water. What is (a) the mole fraction of NaHCo3 in a saturated solution? (b) the molarity of the solution?

  1. moles NaHCO3 = 9.6 g / 84 g/mol =0.114

    moles water = 100 g/18 g/mol =5.56

    total moles = 5.67

    mole fraction = 0.114 / 5.67 =0.0201

    Assumung density = 1 g/mL

    M = 0.114 / 0.1 L = 1.14
