Molinari brothers on the rampage in second round of Bankia Madrid Masters, Spain – Golf news
Italian Francesco Molinari surged to the top of the leaderboard with his powerful comeback on the second day of the Bankia Madrid Masters and is currently resting at five-under, with two more holes to go.
Starting from back nine, Molinari remained considerably complacent with just two birdies, but shot to form after making the turn.
He carded four birdies on the front nine and dropped just one shot at par-four, 6th, to stay on the top of the leaderboard with an aggregate of ten-under for the moment.
England’s Lee Slattery, yesterday’s runner-up, had an interesting run on the second day again and is poised at the second place with his score of four-under for the moment.
He carded three birdies on the front nine and two more after making the turn, dropping just one shot at par-three, 12th.
He is positioned as outright second, one shot better than the group of four, Brett Rumford, overnight leader, Ross McGowan, Graeme Storm and Lorenzo Gagli.
McGowan, who is desperate to post a win, started-off with three birdies and two bogeys on his first 11 holes.
However, he dropped two more shots on the back nine before calling it a day. He remained level-par for the day, falling on the leaderboard.
Alvaro Quiros and World Number One, Luke Donald, who remained in contention on the first day, have yet to tee-off for the second round at the scenic El Encin Golf Hotel in Alcala de Henares, Spain.
Donald is hoping to win the title to extend his lead on the Race to Dubai points table.
He is already leading both the money lists on either side of the Atlantic and is € 1.4-million ahead of runner up, Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy, meanwhile, is engaged with the OneAsia Tour with the latest episode of Kolon Korea Open. Scotland’s Elliot Saltman earned an unusual bonus for his glorious Hole-in-One.
He will be gathering pork meat equivalent to his bodyweight.
Molinari’s brother, Edoardo Molinari, who settled closer to the lead yesterday, has just tee-ed off for his second round and opened up with a birdie on the first hole.
He also pulled in a stunning eagle on the opening hole of the front nine on Thursday.
