Molinari brothers ready for Ryder Cup challenge
Francesco Molinari was eagerly following the battle between the Miliband brothers for the Labour leadership not just because he is fond of the English culture. The anglophile is a keen follower of the duel because he notices some similarities in it.
To him, the achievements of the brothers resemble what he and his brother might be going through. It will be a long time before the two brothers compete for leading a major political party again just like it will be a long time before two brothers compete
in the Ryder Cup as well.
David and Ed Miliband contested against one another in Labour Party’s leadership election. David narrowly lost to his brother Ed.
This year, for the Ryder Cup, the two Molinari siblings will be competing. Even though competition among the Italians is frequent, this partnership, however, will be a cooperative one, since both of them will be struggling to bring the cup to Europe.
When looking at the political rivalry, Ed came and stole the position people always thought was meant for David. In golfing too, it was Edoardo, who came along and took the glory that was always meant for Francesco.
Rivalry among brothers has been common, but when having your own flesh and blood take something that you have really been struggling for, it is bound to get frustrating. Francesco worked his way up after a spell of winless tournaments and was extremely close
when elder brother Ed took away all the glory by winning the Barclay’s Scottish Open in July and at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.
Francesco’s desire of winning a title in four years was ended by his very own brother. It is without a doubt that both the brothers are amazing golfers. Francesco is ranked number 36 in the world, whereas Edoardo is number 15.
“When you are behind you want to work extra hard to catch up because it's something you really want to be - better than your brother”, said Edoardo. At least Ed is open about his competition with his brother.
Even though they are brothers, both of them have different ideas about a night out. Where younger brother Francesco wants spend some time with wife Valentina watching a London play, the elder one wants to go see his precious Juventus accompanied by club
legend Pavel Nedved.
Edoardo assured that they (the brothers) would win every match they played together. His partner in crime, however, didn’t seem to agree with the notion. Francesco thought that Ed was ‘mad’. He pointed out that Edoardo made the promise when he was trying
to make the Ryder team.
The elder Molinari brother was named one of Captain Colin Montgomerie’s wildcard picks and was finally in the team. Francesco subtly said that they will try their best if they play all the matches.
Francesco is a charismatic golfer, who plays very technically, and caught the eye of Montgomerie’s former coach, Denis Pugh. He is scheduled for the foursomes play due to his skills in the game.
Even with his charm, it might just be the elder of the two brothers, who has the skill to hole the putts that really make a difference. Some people even say that Edoardo has magic in his hands. His previous win at Gleneagles made an impact on what people,
Colin, and his fellow teammates think of him.
Monty thought it was the ‘finest’ win he had seen in 20 years on the European Tour. With practice going on yesterday, the Molinari’s were side by side brushing up on their skills for the big tournament.
The Ryder Cup will start on Friday October 1st at Celtic Manor in Wales. The brothers are scheduled to play with another pair which is likely to be Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy.
At the World Cup in China last November, the Italians beat the Irish pair. With the Italians playing in the cup after thirteen years, the Molinaris are hoping to shine. The Ryder Cup finally begins when the players tee off on Friday.
