Andreas Moller, who was part of the German national side that won the European championship in 1996, played down any comparisons with the current side. He insisted that the two teams cannot be compared as the football played in

The former Borussia Dortmund man insisted that there were a lot of players with great leadership skills back then which is lacking in the current team. He admitted that the players in 1996 were a lot more willing and determined
to perform.
“You can't compare the two teams. It was a different time back then, the players were different, the football was different. Our great strength in 1996 was that we had leadership figures in the team,” he was quoted as saying in
an interview to German Football Association’s official website.
Moller stated that the current German squad is still capable of winning Euro 2012 as they have some great players. He insisted that the thought of winning the first major title since 1996 will certainly motivate the players but
added that the team will need a bit of luck to go all the way.
“German footballers already have a good mentality but our generation was particularly strong willed. That is important in winning a major title and naturally, one also needs a bit of luck,” the former Schalke attacking midfielder
concluded.
