Molly Kroeger and Neil Girmus excel in swimming events -
High School State Championships, Nebraska
Molly Kroeger of Omaha Westside and Neil Girmus of Millard South excelled in the final rounds of Girls and Boys 200yard freestyle respectively on ultimate day of the Nebraska High School State Championships for Boys and Girls in Lincoln on February 28.
Kroeger shattered hopes of her competitors by occupying top finishing spot of the event with an effort of 1 minute and 53.89 seconds. She remained nearly four seconds slower from NE State Meet Record of 1 minute and 49.87 seconds, owned by Jenn Kocis of
Omaha Marian in 2004.
The gold medallist remained 1.11 seconds faster from her subsequent swimmer, Brianna McCullough of Papillian-La Vista, who claimed silver medal of the event by posting a time of 1 minute and 55.00 seconds. The third best spot of the event was obtained by
Triniti Counter of Scottsbluff, who stayed 1.65 seconds apart from her former swimmer and ended her race on the medal rostrum with an effort of 1 minute and 56.65 seconds.
Alexa Gross of Omaha Marian emerged as the fourth position holder of the discipline as she completed her race by posting a time of 1 minute and 57.44 seconds.
Next was the same event in Boys corner, where Girmus spoiled party of his rivals by finishing first in 1 minute and 44.09 seconds. He was nearly five seconds away from the meet record of 1 minute and 39.24 seconds, made by Chuck Sharpe of Westside in 1977.
The champion was 0.68 seconds ahead of Lincoln East’s Alexander Kuszak, who followed him on the finishing end by producing an effort of 1 minute and 44.77 seconds for silver medal.
Jack Turman of Papillion-La Vista snared third finest spot of the event as he tapped the finishing blockade with an effort of 1 minute and 44.85 seconds.
Turman was chased by Ryan Hogan of Millard South, who was just two strokes behind his foregoing finisher and clocked 1 minute and 45.13 seconds for fourth spot.
Furthermore, the arena admired breathtaking efforts of all teenage swimmers in their respective events while the session ended after the completion of all planned events.
