Molting hermit crab, please help.?

My girlfriend and I have 2 P.P. hermit crabs we got a few months ago and we believe one is either molting, or dead. We are assuming the best but we are not sure what to do. We've looked online and know a little but it talks about an iso tank to put the crab in. The crab has already shed and began to mold. How do I move the crab, what do I need to do, how should I take care of him? Please help.

  1. Take the other okay crab and move him just in case because when you mess with a molting crab they can die! to tell if your crab is dead check to see if the air around it seems musty... if it does dig him up! Hermit crabs die easily! i hope you have some luck!

  2. hey put it in a isolation tanks and put water food and a house in there. stick him in the water and see what he does. pick him up and if the shell or him falls off then look in the shell if you see a very light crabby in there he molted you can tell if the crab is dead or molted. keep him in there until turns darker and make sure you put his molt if he did in there so he can eat it. make sure you put alot of substrate in there for him to dig and bury himself!   hope everything goes good! i have 6 hermies

  3. do not mess with him unless if it has been 4-8 weeks ur crab is molting if he is in a hole that he dug or if he is buried if ur crab is just in his shell for a long time and not buried or in a hole then he could be dead or ignoring u once  my crab was ignoring me we gave him a bath and he didnt come out but finally after 10 minutes he came out and he was alive. hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. If you can't provide him with the ISO tank you've read about, try to do something similar for him,  he needs food, water,  a bit of privacy, a bit of damp sand, darkness and mostly to be left alone.

You said he's already shed and has begun to mold ?  I do hope that is a typo !

There is loads of information out there for the care of hermit crabs.  Here's a pretty good link, the more you know, the happier you'll all be.  Good luck
