I know there is a lot of controversy on this, but I am desperate.

My 6 week old is fussy/gassy 24/7, fights my while eating and is constipated daily. I have tried 4 different formulas including gentle ease and lactose free. Oh, I use gas drops like candy and they dont help.

So, I wondering if anyone has been though this and soy formula helped.

Thanks in advance.

  1. I would def check w/your ped first, but my son was on soy and so is my daughter now, Similac Isomil w/Iron, and it did wonders on my son and for my daughter now. My son had acid reflux really bad, and the soy formula seemed to ease it a bit. My daughter was constipated, extremely fussy and gassy, and she is no longer fussy or gassy (at least none out of the ordinary) lol...as far as constipation, i think the iron in it it contributing to that, so my dr told me to give her 1/2 tsp light karo syrup to 2oz water once a day. thats been helping her go more regularly. Good Luck honey!

  2. i had the same problem with my daughter. she's 3 months old now, and the similac isomil (soy) formula was the only thing that worked. she was a totally different baby overnight! i dont see why there should be any controversy about it. if it makes the baby more comfortable and is safe then why fight about it?

also, you should try Gripe Water for her gas. it helped my daughter in a matter of minutes.

    good luck!

  3. my daughter would puke like crazy when she was little so we swtched her to soy and it helped her keep the food down.  the doctor says soy is easier for some babies to digest.  Why dont you get alittle thing of it and try it out..its not goin to hurt anything and if you dont like it then oh well no harm done

  4. My kids always had trouble on Enfamil, We had better luck with Isomil by Similac. Also your baby may be allergic to soy and milk so try the hypoallergenic one, Alimentum or the one without the lactose, Similac Sensitive or Similac Sensitive RS.

My children all could not handle normal milk based formulas. My oldest son was on Isomil. My youngest daughter wa son Alimentum. My twins are on 3 different formulas. Pne is on Alimentum and the other is on Similac Sensitive RS.

  5. I think you should get your baby checked out by a Doctor or Pedi before you go down the road of soy formula. There could be a number of reasons your baby is gassy and fussy on formula, in fact a lot of babies generally are until their digestive system settles and gets used to it. If you have been changing formula regularly your baby has not had a chance to get use to its ingredients and maybe that could be the main cause. I would get a consult with a Doctor and stick to the same formula for a while, your baby could have reflux, colic, intolerance issues......and there are many more things that can make baby fussy.

  6. Yes, you should definatly try it.  My son had problems with all milk based at this age too.  Soy was the answer.  Even gentle ease is milk based just no lactose- which my doc said that it is extremely rare for lactose intolerance in an infant so Gentlease and lactose free are a waste of money unless the baby has a stomach virus.
