Mom died 4 years ago with $4000. in the bank. All bills paid . How do I get the money out of the bank ?

She did not have any other signatures on her account and I would like to be able to do this without a lawyer for such a small amount

You should bring a copy of the death certificate to the bank, and some id of your own to show you are a relative, and ask them to release the funds.  You may still need a lawyer if there are other livingg heirs (such as brothers/sisters, spouse) who would have a claim on the estate.  I would have to question why the money has been sitting in an account for four years.  Has there been any probate inquiry or other reason that this has been left unclaimed until now?
