  1. Momentum is the product of mass and velocity.

    By Newton's second law, the total force on an object is the rate of change of its momentum.

    Consider some examples: -

    Suppose two people are running at same speed. It is more difficult to stop the heavier person.

    So, it means that you have to apply more force for more mass.

    Suppose two people of same mass are running at different speeds. It is more difficult to stop the person running faster.

    So, it means you have to apply more force for greater velocity.

    Combining the above two conclusions, we find that you need to apply more force if mass multiplied by velocity is greater or if momentum is greater.
