Momo Koseki pins Jujeath Nagaowa to retain WBC female atomweight title – Boxing News
Momo Koseki, the WBC female atomweight champion, successfully defended her title for the eighth consecutive time by collecting an impressive unanimous decision against Filipina proud Jujeath Nagaowa, in a 10-round bout held on June 19, 2012.
The above duo headlined the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Tokuhon Shinto Promotions. The ring for the bout was set up at Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan and the showdown was co-headlined by the non-title eight-round featherweight bout between Yukihiro
Nakamura and Alvin Tam.
Momo, 29, was entering her career’s 16th bout, boasting 12 wins. The World Boxing Organisation’s seventh ranked pugilist has nailed just three opponents by knockout. As for the bout, she was seriously overshadowed by Jujeath’s experience.
The southpaw Momo was on a continuous win streak since her last career loss to Samson Tor Buamas. Koseki grabbed her WBC gold from Winyu Paradorn Gym and since then has defended it against seven pugilists.
In addition, there was another drawback being dubbed as a somewhat decisive factor in determining the odds. Koseki, for the first time in her career, was taking on a heavily experienced pugilist.
Before Nagaowa, Koseki has collided with just rookie level brawlers. Nagaowa, 24, is a surging Filipina prospect who has been in a total of 22 bouts. The young lady has nailed 11 opponents and seven of them via knockout.
Therefore, not only in experience but also in the knockout ratio Nagaowa possessed a clear upper hand over Koseki. Despite having all the stats and technicalities against her, Momo did not show any kind of intimidation.
Momo used her southpaw stance effectively and stunned Nagaowa every now and then with well calculated powerful jabs. Nagaowa was unable to defend herself at several moments as Momo’s agile and swift movements were almost impossible to counter.
From the very beginning of the bout, Momo did not allow Nagaowa to overcome her by using her experience and implementing her game plan. This aspect aided Koseki in setting the pace of the bout.
Later on after collecting the eleventh loss of her career,  Brico Santig, manager Nagaowa accepted and praised Momo’s skills and abilities and stated, “We lost by points unanimous. The champion Koseki was very fast fighting from long distance. Out boxer
Jujeath always trying to go inside to press action and score body shots. It was a close fight with several head butt. But we really lose by points. Champion won this time, congratulations to Momo. But Jujeath fought well. Jujeath learned much in this fight.
We'll keep fighting. Let's try our luck next time.”
The bout was definitely a classic one and mesmerised the whole crowd. With this win Mom has collected her 13th career win.
