Momota Kento continues his winning run at the Badminton Asia Youth U-19 Championships 2011
Young Japanese shuttler, Momota Kento continued his winning performance as he defeated China’s Huang Yuxiang, in the Boy’s Singles pre-quarter-final at the Badminton Asia Youth U-19 Championships 2011, at Lucknow, India, on Thursday, July 7.
Momota worked really hard to chuck out the Chinese in a breathtaking match which took three-sets of high-quality badminton from both contestants. The encounter was one of most entertaining matches of the day at the indoor arena in Lucknow.
The victory of Momota over Yuxiang proves that Japan is catching up China, which is the leading badminton nation in the entire world of badminton. In the opening set of the match, the Japanese was miles ahead of the Chinese by playing on a different level.
He proved too strong for Yuxiang, who failed to maintain a good speed in the opening set. Momota got a one-set advantage in the match by clinching the first game in an impressive manner with a margin of 21-13, in 17 minutes.
The second set grabbed the interest of the huge crowd, as it was full of powerful smashes, fast movements and superb rallies. Both players delivered a stunning performance by playing at the highest level of the game. The exchange of long rallies proved that
both are mature shuttlers.
The score was tied until 17-17 in the second-half of the set, where the Japanese lost his focus and made a couple of unforced errors and consequently lost the second game by a 19-21 margin, in 23 minutes.
Momota found his momentum in the final set of the fight and dictated the pace of the bird. His control at the net was superb which gave him an edge over Yuxiang, who failed to execute tumbling net strokes because of the speed of his challenger. Momota was
picking the bird from the tape of the net and earned many points by executing net killings.
The Japanese clinched the final game in striking fashion with the score of 21-17, in 19 minutes. The 59-minute battle ended with a 21-13, 19-21 and 21-17 margin.
