Question:

Moms: How many of you have "Mother's Rings"?

I'm talking about a piece of jewelry (generally a ring, but not always) that has the birthstones of your children.

My mother has one, my grandmother has one, but I'm seeing fewer and fewer among mothers in their 30's and younger. Is it a dying tradition?

I got mine for my last birthday!

  1. I'm in my 20's and I would love for my husband to get me one for mother's day, christmas, my birthday, etc,etc (hint, Hint)

  2. I have one, it's silver with pink stones for my baby girl. I am 24 years old, its a nice tradition!

  3. hahahaha - not me, my husband of 5 years hasn't even gotten around to giving me a WEDDING  or ENGAGEMENT ring yet, and we've been married for 5 years and have a 2 year old and a 5 month old.  Men really are jerks, arent' they?

Anyways, we gave one to my mom when we were kids - I remember my dad was SO excited to give it to her - he could hardly wait until her birthday - he was just like a little kid.

I think that they're a really neat thing.  I like the necklaces too with the little kid birthstone charms, I think they're cute.

  4. I'm 47 and know no one who has one. I don't (aw....) and none of my three older sisters do, either. No friends, either.

I still see them on sites and in catalogues, and they are so beautiful!

My mom had one - six stones, all lines up in a row; very pretty ring.

However, I've been actually thinking about it. We have only one child - so I was thinking of getting what's usually called a 'daughter's pride' ring, but do the stones to fit our situation, and the ring would be for me.

I'm a garnet, husband is a diamond/white topaz; son is opal or pink tourmaline.

Ah, now you have me thinking - hmmm - 20th wedding anniversary next year - might be an idea....

  5. Kind of yes, For my 1st mother's day as a bio Mum, I got a gold ring with a amethyst stone in the middle and 2 small cubic zirconia's - 1 on each side of the amethyst, The amethyst represents my daughter and the 2 smaller zirconia's represent my 2 step daughters, when I had my 2nd daughter I got another ring for mother's day to represent her, again it was amethyst, Amethyst does not represent any of the girls birth stones, it's just my favourite, along side diamonds and zirconias. ALL the girls - both my own 2 plus step daughters birthstones are either ruby or garnet (yep all 4 lol), and I don't like red stones lol. I didn't know it was ever trend and don't know anyone else who has a ring or anything to represent their children, which I think is sad that alot of people don't cherish their children more. I thought I was being fairly original oh well guess not lol.

  6. My mom has one. I don't my son is only one! Hopefully some day!

  7. I have one from my son's. It has their birth stones in it, and *Awesome Mum* engraved on the inside. (Awesome is my favourite word)

My engagement ring, has my Husbands & My Birth stones, either side of my diamond.

It's currently having my ring updated, so with my new additions birth stones added to it, for my birthday next Tuesday.

I also have a dog tag, which has all their names on it. I don't wear it, because I'd get it caught on things. But it is joined to the zipper of my wallet, every time I used my wallet I see it.

I am very sentimental, and the only person I know who has this.

  8. my sister and i got my mom one

  9. My mom doesn't have a ring, I don't think, but she has a necklace that has three little silver stick figures, two girls and a boy. They each have mine and my siblings' birthstones for the bodies. It's my favorite necklace that she owns. :)

  10. I've been wanting one ever since my youngest was born!!  My mom has one and I really want one, too!!

  11. oh wow i've never heard of that. sounds like a loverly tradition tho!

  12. My mom does. :P And also a necklace. :P

  13. I dont have one but i want one so bad!

  14. I just got my mom one for her birthday and my grandmother has one. I don't have one yet so hopefully one day. I only have one child so I'm not in a rush to get one.

  15. I just turned 30 and I got my mothers ring for Valentines day 2 years ago. I love it. I was pregnant with my 4th child so the jeweler put a clear stone in and switched it out after she was born.

  16. I have one with my son's birthstone on it.  I wept when my husband and son gave it to me for Christmas.  I wear my wedding ring on my left hand to show my devotion to my husband, and I wear my mother's ring on my right hand to show my devotion to my son.

  17. I have one. I got it for Christmas a few years ago. I am 40.

  18. Nope, don't have one.

  19. I dont have one :( but I want one!

  20. I have one. I got it the Christmas after my middle son was born (over 16 years ago). We had a new stone added after we adopted our youngest. It is my favorite ring! I want to get one for my Mom, but she isn't really into jewelry so I don't know if she would wear it. My grandma also has one.I remember asking her to show me who each stone was for when I was little. It was like a ritual that we did whenever I saw her. I think this is why I wanted one so bad when I had kids.
