She keeps calling saying that she doesn't have enough money for college tuition. She only gets the opportunity to work on weekends. Her boyfriend writes on her facebook telling her not to work a double this weekend because he wants to see her but he just saw her tonight. She calls me again and I tell her sarcastically that "He's right, and then maybe you won't have enough money for college and have to drop out, then you could see him all the time!" and she asked me," Do you want me to delete you as a friend on facebook?" and she said, "You know, I'm not going to want to call you anymore.... and that is creepy mom, and you have too much time on your hands. Do something else with your time mom!" All because I saw what he posted on her page.

Tell me what you think of this?

  1. Shes your daughter, your paying for her tuition, your helping her financially, she is being irresponsible and selfish and bratty.

What she needs is a good spanking with a hairbrush. Shes not too old and neither am I.

  2. I'm a college student.

College is HARD. And tuiton, books, lab fees etc are VERY EXPENSIVE. And I can barely work because of the studying and homework etc. And dont always assume that shes not working because of the boyfriend. She probably has homework and things to get done too.

You dont need to be fighting with your daughter while shes gone. You guys need to have a good relationship. You need her to stay in school to get a good education and she needs you to be supportive.

I would suggest putting her on a budget. If she needs help with tuition, you should of course, pay for it. Otherwise tell her she needs to get a student loan (if you cant pay for it). My parents pay for my books  and all school related expenses, tuition is paid for my government aid and student loans, and my parents also give me a monthly "allowance" check, if you will, of 200 for extras such as gas and food.

  3. So, first, your daughter is working a full time job being a student (and it IS a full time job.  For 15 hours of class time, there should be approximatly 30-40 hours of work outside the class.  So thats 45-55 hours total that she should be spending on her first job as a student.

And then you want her to work double shifts at her second job on the weekend?

If she never has time to study or be social, she will drop college altogether in favor of work and social.
