Question:

Moms - question about birth control?

After having my daughter, I started on the pill. Have been single for quite some time, no need for it anymore (not planning to be active anytime soon), but I like the regularity of things. Do any of you keep taking birth control just for the regularity of periods every month, even though you don't need it to prevent pregnancy at the moment? I keep debating over it, cuz it's $10 a month I could put towards something else or saving, and I'm wondering if that's part of the reason I've gained so much weight the past few years. But on the other hand I love knowing exactly when 'my time of the month' will be. Any of you go through a similar situation?

  1. Definitely stay on it. That way when you do want to become sexually active again, you are protected. Remember it takes a month for the pill to be effective after you start it so its smart just to continue it.

  2. I retained the regularity of my period after I went off the pill, but that is not to say that you will.  There are studies that link long term use of hormonal birth control to different health problems, so you might want to research that and decide for yourself if regularity is worth it.

  3. I am not a mother yet, but my doctor originally put me on birth control to help control my hormones and regulate my cycle.  It absolutely helps, so I still take it even though I'm not doing it to prevent pregnancy since I am not active yet.

The reason it is probably so expensive is because you likely have a brand name.  You can ask your doctor if there is a generic version (which is just as effective), but they may have put you on the one they did for a reason and sometimes there are no substitutes available.  Good luck :)

  4. I stay on mine just for the less painful periods that don't last 2 weeks anymore.  My periods are so god awful off the birth control, I'd end up spending that $10 on extra feminine products. My insurance uses a mail-in pharmacy and the copay when i do that is $0 for the type I'm on.  If it's getting too expensive ask your GYN if they have any samples.

  5. yeah,it is a good that  you know when you are going to get i"it", and 10 dollars is not that much money, and in case you go out and get the nasty you will be protected from getting pregnant.

  6. yes I do for that reason and because it makes my skin so clear. No acne or blemishes. I get mine from the health department and they are free since I'm a single parent with low income. And I haven't been active since last year and dont plan on it. But I do plan on continuing using them..
