  1. I am neither as I am not a mother.  But I can already tell you I will be jealous of those who can stay home with their young children and are still able to provide quality environments for them.  As my husband is a teacher (as am I), we will most likely not be able to live on one salary and I will be teaching...which I do love as well.

But once I started teaching I realized how many teachers had children with birthdays in April-June so they can stay home with them for at least a few months without a loss of pay....we are such sneaky little devils I tell you.

  2. No, not at all. I am exactly where I want to be.

  3. SAHM here: nope not at all.

  4. Out of necessity I work at a job outside my home but I would love to be able to stay home with my children. There are benefits and drawbacks either way.

Edit: Another answer suggested that mothers who work outside their homes have more money to spend on themselves for things like purses and shoes. That may be true for some women, but that is definitely not true for me. I own like 2 pairs of shoes.

Another answerer said that she wouldn't want to be stuck in some dreary office while having strangers watch her children. I wouldn't like that either, which is why (a) I don't work in an office and (b) strangers do not watch my babies.

Although working moms lose out on time with their kids, they are not necessarily wage slaves; some women have interesting jobs that they enjoy. SAHMs may have more flexibility in their schedules, but it is definitely not an easy job. My baby took her first steps while I was at work; when the baby sitter told me about it, I cried because I missed it. While SAHMs have the awesome benefit of being able to care for their kids full time, that also has the potential to drive some women stark raving mad. And kids who go to daycare benefit from the social interaction. Many daycares have programs that help kids prepare for school. For many families, its a moot point as they need two incomes to make ends meet. As I said above, there are pros and cons either way. People have to make decisions that benefit their individual families.

  5. No. Sometimes I think it would be fun to have a job, but then I think of all the things I will miss out on with my baby and I forget about it. He is more important to me than having a job outside of my home.

  6. God, no, I hated working, I always found it dead boring.  I like being at home and being able to do what I like when I like.  I'd hate to be stuck in some dreary office at the beck and call of my employer, never being able to do anything I wanted to do, and having my children looked after by strangers.

  7. The only thing I am jealous of is that if they work, then there is more money to buy clothes, shoes, purses...and stuff like that but I would not trade my role as a stay at mom for anything. YOu only live once and kids grow up so fast...I would be so sad to think that I would miss out on all of that but there are times I wished I worked at least 2 days a week to get a break. I go to school full time at night, so that helps a bit...

  8. No because I am a teacher so when my children are old enough to go to school, I can return to my job and still be home at the same time they are.

  9. When my mom was staying at home, she had every intention of going back to work. She said she'd go out of her mind with boredom if she didn't work.

  10. honestly...career mom here with a five year old.  Currently a Temp....SAHM.  Absolutely no jealousy here. bored out of my mind...I cant wait to get back to work.

  11. I stayed home with my kids for 14 years, and never once felt jealous of women with careers.  I loved it.  It went by too fast.  Now that they are older (junior high and high school), I work for the school district, so I am still home when they are. I love having something to do during the day, and the extra money is nice.
