22:24:05 is the time using a 24-hour clock.  In other words, it was 24 minutes past ten o'clock at night (and five seconds).

A lot of businesses (especially in hospitality/travel) use the 24-hour clock, because you would be amazed at how many people do NOT know the difference between AM and PM.  And therefore the whole confusion as to whether 12:00 AM is midday or midnight becomes redundant.  12:00-hours is midday; while 24:00-hours is midnight.

EDT means Eastern Daylight Time.  Meaning the time zone is in Daylight Savings mode -- as opposed to EST, which is Eastern Standard Time (ie the longitudinal time zone according to Greenwich Mean Time).

Any country that is broad enough (such as Russia, United States, Australia) are divided into time zones (ie eastern time, pacific time, mountain time, et al) in order to identify the appropriate time in that region.

Lets say its 5:00am, in military time it will be 0500.

Lets say its 5:00pm, in military time it will be 1700.

But you get my drift. It is time used in the military, there for if they tell you to be there at 1700 hours, then you know the mean 5:00pm and not 5:00am
