Monaghan Jack snatches the limelight from the favourite of the Everup Stakes at Hall Green on 20th December
On 20th December, at Hall Green, Monaghan Jack posted back to back wins after his last win in a Grade A1 race at Hall Green on 16th December, claiming a prize money of £170 in the Everup Stakes.
He achieved this most recent win by covering the 480-metre track distance in 29.32 seconds. Under Pat Sallis’s charge, Monaghan Jack was through the wire in the least time, leaving behind five hounds yearning for victory in the Everup Stakes.
From his thirty-three starts, he has won eleven races. His racing experience ranges from participating in Grade A1 to Grade A2, and IT races.
He has been sent as a favourite twelve times, twice being a joint favourite. His participation is dominant at Hall Green and Nottingham, with a lone race at Swindon.
His last two victories came in Grade A1 races, and both were at Hall Green. Surprisingly, Monaghan Jack has competed against Around Corners in five straight races, all Grade A1.
In the first race, on 7th October, Monaghan Jack was fourth against Around Corners. Then, on 14th October, Monaghan Jack won the race, giving Around Corner only a neck’s edge.
In the third race, he was second against Around Corners by 2 ¼ lengths, but in the next two races, it was Monaghan Jack who claimed both, and had Around Corners cornered by 1 ¾ and then ½ a length.
The 4/5 favourite for the Everup Stakes, Farloe Titan, also representing Pat Sallis for the race, covered the distance in 30.04 seconds and missed the third position by 2 ¾ lengths.
Left behind by 2 ½ lengths from the winner was the runner up of the race, Bandicoot Fionn, who was trained by Chris Allsopp, finishing the race in 29.52 seconds.
Third in line after the winner was C Kyme trained Share The Spoils, who covered the 2 ¾ length gap in 0.22 seconds, reaching the wire in 29.74 seconds.
At the fifth position was Supreme Chalkie, trained by S Buckland. The hound got done with the race in 30.04 seconds and was followed by Holycross Magic, who was at a distance of 2 ¼ lengths, putting an end to the race in 30.22 seconds.
