Monarchy or Republic (uk) ?

I'm all for a republic saving the tax payer millions in civil list payments.

The defence the royal family brings more money to the country than they take, fine if that is the case let them have a percentage of the direct revenue they generate instead of a civil payment. I have a suspission people would still visit the buildings and history without them!

so for you, monarcy or not?

  1. Monarchy - you really do need to read up on what they cost the taxpayer - nothing.  The Monarchy receive £40 million in Civil List payments.  The taxable revenue from Crown Estates is £200 million - I presume you can do the maths?

The cost of a president (Italy for example) costs their taxpayers £1.24 per head of population compared to .66p per head in the UK.

  2. Monarchy, simply because historically we have always had a monarch and I like the Royal family, at least the older Royals who know how to behave appropriately. If Labour has it's way it won't be long before we're just a federal state of Europe with no unique cultural identity or united nation. I'm sure the latest media report said the Royal family cost each of us 66p annually. I'd far rather pay that, than my taxes going abroad in foreign aid when our infrastructure so badly needs investment.

  3. Monarchy

anyway, we would never get rid of them. The Queen has to sign every bill that is passed in government for it to become law - she'd have to sign the bit of paper that got rid of her!!! can't really see that one happening. The monarchy is too far imbedded in our political, legal, and cultural systems, that it would take ages to get rid of them.

They only cost us 66p each last year anyway. It's hardly a fortune.

  4. Monarchy.

It gives us a sence of identity, and with a Queen/King, if the Primeminister is so awful, there is someone above him to take him down a peg or three...

I'm all for monarchy. And so is any TRUE Brit.

    Calling you Republicans.

Do you think we could still hold onto the Empire without the King/Queen? Apparently, I heard a rumour they were planning to change the Head of State's name to "Emperor/Empress" rather than King/Queen.

And I would rather pay 63p or whatever it is for the Royals, than pay for an EU membership we do not want, or to set up strong economies for countries, who could potentially be hostile, and start a war against us!!!

  5. Republic!

  6. Hello, they do take a percentage of the revenue they generate.

  7. Monarchy and Independence for England.

  8. Monarchy is better than having a fat ars ed President. Who needs another politician ripping the tax payer off.

  9. republic.the royal family has had a thousand year free ride ,time for freeloaders to get off the gravy train.tourists will still come ,you cant take away history andthe crown jewels, buck palace and the tower will still be there!.Just remember how the royals got their wealth .....by force of arms and taxation through government they controlled. Now they dont do anything to truly justify their existance, the rest of the modern world got wise years ago and got rid of their royals, time we joined the 21st century and did the same.

  10. England to be independant and keep monarchy.

  11. You poor boy - you're not really getting it are you? If you get rid of the Queen, you still need a head of state! The PM is not head of state, he leads the Government.

A presidency costs a fortune - look at the US system.

The reality is that the Queen is a cheap option for the UK, provides a bit of colour to an otherwise boring national life and  is above the petty nature of politics.

Now get that chip off your shoulder and stop moaning...

  12. Monarchy in this Country every time your arguments for a epublic are spurious. A president and exxpresident etc will cost just as much and even more. They have theri noses deep in the trough anyway.  Crown estates? technically they include the Royal Dockyards and NHS hospitals

  13. They love wearing Military ranks that they havent earned!

Charles - Admiral  (he was a lieutenant )

Anne - Navy Commander (wasnt ever in the services)

Philip - Admiral of the Fleet (only got to lieutenant)

William - awarded RAF wings after 3 months (should be 3 years)

The Queen - actually entitled to her ranks.

I lost my respect for them when I realised there is one rule for us and one rule for them.

  14. I'd suggest keeping the monarchy.  It is a potential check on the power of tyrants such as the BushLabour party.  The last time Britain abandoned the monarchy, a fascist dictator seized absolute power.

  15. neither!

    independence for england!
