Monbeg Dude eying a chance in Betfred Gold Cup Chase
Monbeg Dude is going to try his luck in the Betfred Gold Cup Chase at Cheltenham in England on Friday, March 15, 2013. It will not be easy for him to deliver a good result, as there will be some fierce competitors up against him.
Although the Irish challenger has been unable to maintain a high winning percentage, his performances have not been bad at all and he can certainly cause an upset at the end of the day.
He has been in the sport for quite some time and knows how to handle pressure at the highest level. Moreover, his recent form is also not bad, which will give him the confidence to take on the best in the business.
The eight-year-old gelding has represented his team in a total of 12 events, winning three of them, which shows that he has the potential to surprise his opponents every now and then. Other than his victories, he has finished as a runner up on a couple of
times whereas secured the third spot on the same number of times.
Despite that, things will not be easy for the seasoned performer, as he will have to deal with the likes of Bobs Worth, Sir Des Champs and Long Run. He will really have to be at his absolute best in order to claim the top spot.
Things have worked out positively for him this year, as he has managed to perform well in a couple of events, winning one of them whereas securing the third spot in the other.
Therefore, his trainer Michael Scudamore is confident and said, “Looking at the race and speaking to the owners today [Saturday] the Gold Cup is now first choice, especially as it looks like being soft and one or two others might still go elsewhere.”
The veteran trainer added, “We can take a bit of hope from Synchronised's victory last year, although we're not quite in that league, but he doesn't owe us anything. Paul Carberry can ride him again and will have him out the back again and hopefully he can
stay on and pick up some prize-money towards the end.”
