Monchengladbach appoints Lucien Favre as their new manager
Borussia Monchengladbach has appointed Lucien Favre as their new head coach just a day after sacking Michael Frontzeck. Reports suggest that Favre has signed a contract with Monchengladbach until the summer of 2013. Favre will be officially presented during
a press conference later today. Favre will take on Schalke 04 in Monchengladbach upcoming fixture. He will be hoping to bag all three points in his first match as Die Fohlen boss.
Favre appointment took place just after one day when team management fired their manager Frontzeck. The German national was dismissed by the team management after their 3 – 1 loss against St Pauli. Frontzeck was struggling to find results; consequently,
Die Fohlen dropped to 18th place in the league table.
Favre was voted Coach of the year following a tremendous season with the Bundesliga outfit http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hertha-BSC-c39521 in 2008/09 season. He managed to finish fourth in the league table; however, the Swiss tactician was fired by the team management in September 2009 after
six consecutive defeats in the new season.
The Swiss national has achieved wonders with his homeland outfits like FC Zurich, Servette, and Yverdon-Sport. Die Fohlen needed a leader who can steer the team out of the danger zone and Favre seems to be the perfect man for the job. The 53-year-old tactician
will take his first training session with the team on 15 February (Tuesday). Favre will be hoping that he can guide his side towards the safety zone and fulfil the board expectations.
The official statement has ended up all the rumours, which suggested that Die Fohlen are eyeing former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 boss, Steve McClaren, for the manager seat. It looks like Favre will be a more likely candidate to replace Frontzeck at Monchengladbach.
Favre will be looking to take the relegation threatened club out of the danger zone that is becoming more and more open for the lower table teams as the season draws to a conclusion. Favre will be hoping to reclaim his lost reputation by guiding Borussia
to safety zone by the end of the season.
