Borussia Monchengladbach remain unbeaten since the winter break but their draw against Hamburg kept them at the second spot in the Bundesliga.
This year's title contenders, Borussia Monchengladbach, lost a golden opportunity to go joint top with Borussia Dortmund as they managed to secure only a draw against Hamburg SV at home.
Gladbach played hosts to the Red Shorts on Friday, February 24, at the Borussia Park with both teams settling for a 1-1 draw. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tolgay-Arslan-c35213 netted for the visitors.
The Foals started the game on the second spot, three points clear of reigning champions, Borussia Dortmund. They were favourites to win the clash but were surprisingly held to a draw in front of the home fans. Hanke opened the
scoring for the home side right on the brink of half-time but his effort was cancelled out by Arslan in the 56th minute.
Both teams failed to score afterwards as Hamburg came out with one important point but The Foals received a setback in their bid for the Bundesliga title.
Gladbach manager, Lucien Favre, also expressed his disappointment at the team’s draw and admitted his team dropped two important points at home. He reckons that his players took the game lightly which allowed the opposition to
take advantage of the situation.
Favre insisted that the Imtech Arena outfit showed better rhythm than his side and admitted that the visitors put in a more determined performance. However, the tactician is confident of making a winning comeback in the future
games and securing a place in Europe.
While talking during the post-match press conference, the 54-year-old tactician further added:
"We lacked punch today and offered far too little. We came up against a quick and strong team and did not have that in our game today."
Gladbach currently find themselves second on the points table, two points short of Borussia Dortmund. Bayern will host Schalke and Dortmund host Hannover in the league on Sunday. A Bayern win will put them above The Foals on the
points table while a win for the Borussians will open a five-point gap between the two sides.
