Monday Night RAW: Edge vs. Wade Barrett – Edge quits the SummerSlam team
The self-proclaimed ‘Rated-R Superstar’, Edge, is perhaps the most controversial wrestler in the history of the sport. Edge challenged the leader of The Nexus on the last Monday Night RAW, and told his fans that he will cut the head of the snake by defeating Wade Barrett. Edge also said that he wants no interference from any member of Team WWE during the fight and he will do things his way. The anonymous General Manager of Monday Night RAW agreed to set up this fight (even as SummerSlam teammate R-Truth tried to talk sense into Edge) and asked Wade Barrett, the leader of The Nexus to prepare for the match.
Surprisingly, Wade Barrett entered the ring alone and no member of Nexus accompanied him to the fighting area. Wade Barrett was aggressive during the start of the fight and delivered a knee-kick to Edge’s abdomen. Wade Barrett then cornered Edge and delivered hardcore punches to his face. Edge replied by banging Wade Barrett’s body on the corner of the ring. Edge then took a stylish baseball drive and slammed Wade Barrett’s head on the ring floor. The veteran wrestler Edge was slowly and gradually starting to take over the match against his less experienced opponent.
Edge then grabbed Wade Barrett’s head and banged it on the top turn buckle of the ring. Edge knew that it was important for him to win the match as it would bring him great popularity and prestige among the wrestling fans. Edge then did an unexpected move as he ran in the ring and delivered a Spear into Wade Barrett’s abdomen. Wade Barrett screamed in pain and many thought it as the end of the match. Edge quickly went for the cover and the referee started counting to three, but Wade Barrett kicked out before the final three count.
Wade Barrett then countered the dominant fighting skills of Edge by throwing Edge to the ropes and delivering a big boot to his face on his return. Edge tried to get up but Wade Barrett again kicked Edge’s face and threw him outside the ring. The momentum of the match had suddenly shifted in favour of Wade Barrett, who was now dominating the more experienced wrestler. Wade Barrett then picked up Edge and banged his head on the ring corner multiple times. Edge was clearly struggling to keep up with the strength and power of Wade Barrett.
Wade Barrett picked Edge on his shoulders and set himself to execute his wrestling finisher. Edge countered the move and banged Wade Barrett’s head on the ring floor. Wade Barrett was down and out and was in a vulnerable position against the Rated-R Superstar. That was the moment when Edge got himself ready to deliver a hardcore Spear in Wade Barrett’s abdomen. It seemed that the match would finish in a few minutes.
But then Wade Barrett cleverly rolled out of the ring to avoid the Spear. Wade Barrett called his other Nexus group members and they surrounded the ring to beat up Edge. Edge realized the gravity of the situation and ran for his life by jumping over the boundary wall around the ring. The Nexus members watched Edge running like a chicken as Edge embarrassed himself in front of the fans, and the match ended in a No Contest.
Edge exited the arena and started looking for John Cena. John Cena is the same wrestler who set up the team to fight against The Nexus at SummerSlam. Edge said that no one from his team came for help when he was surrounded by The Nexus in the ring. Both wrestlers engaged in a heated argument and as a result, Edge told the world that he quits from Team WWE. It was a big blow for the team before the SummerSlam. SummerSlam is just two weeks away and many wrestling pundits believe that the Team WWE will implode at the pay-per-view match.
