“Money” Mayweather finally speaks up about Pacquiao
It wouldn’t matter if the entire sport of boxing fell on its head today, or dissolved to oblivion. Forget trash talk, boxing versus MMA, hand wrap controversy, Don King madness. After months of silence, Floyd Mayweather appears to have finally spoken about his potential signing with Don King, and a super-bout with seven-division titlist Manny Pacquiao.
Two hours ago Mayweather posted this cryptic but discernible message on his Twitter: “A real boss moves when he's ready not when told.. Follow to support, follow to hate. As long as u follow I appreciate it..”
The comment comes in the wake of endless anticipation about what will happen, if anything, between Don King and Mayweather. For the last week or so, King has been viciously trying to woo Mayweather into signing a promotional contract with him. Analytic fireworks went off implying that should King be successful, it would mean a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout would finally be a reality, as oppose to the theoretical fantasy it has remained until now.
The question one needs presumably needs to ask Mayweather is: “when will you be ready?” Fans have waited, and the whole world has been well ready for some time. This train has left the station two times already, and two times Mayweather has missed it. Why put fans through the torment and torture of more waiting? Neither Pacquiao nor Mayweather are getting any younger.
An hour before the post, Mayweather tweeted another cryptic message, saying: “Whether you pay to see me win, Whether you pay to see me lose...Guess What?? Your still paying.. My haters help me shine lol.”
The message highlights his philosophy that money is all. Presumably by shine here he means “make money,” and certainly, paying to see him “lose” also qualifies as that. By why would he say such a thing, especially as if it’s some kind of secret revelation? As if he’s dusting off the sacred books of knowledge in so saying? Everybody knows paying to see Mayweather fight, win or lose, earns him more money than anybody else in boxing. That's about as much of a revelation as saying he'll once again run behind his jab all night his next fight, too.
Still, the comments can only imply that all of the press and speculation has finally started to seep into Mayweather’s skin. Something fans can finally be proud about.
