I know for a fact my roommate stole my money order and spent it. When I move in the landlord put him in charge of collecting the rent and also in picking the roommate. I fill out my apart of the information but I didn’t fill out the part to whom the money order would go to. I already went to the Post Office and file the report one guy said it would take a week but online said it would take 60 days. I already know I’m going to pay the rent again so there is no problem. Now I have to wait until send me the information. Is this federal offence, what should I do before calling the cops on his butt. Anyone knows any thing.

Please help me

  1. Most Money Order Companies will not reimburse you for your loss because you did not have the Payee part filled out. If it is already "Spent" they cannot reimburse you.

You would have to "prove" that you did not intend for your roommate to have it.

  2. If you can prove he took it, then yes, call the cops and file a report. You may end up having to file a small claims suit agaisnt him to get your money back though if the cops don't do anything.
