You will more than likely be able to use it if it is a Visa or Mastercard.  

Contact your bank to ask them, and make sure you find out what it will cost you as well.

Your best option would be to get a credit card. (If you are planning on hiring a vehicle, you will definitely need a credit card!)

Don't know where you're going in West Africa but, if you're going to Nigeria then ATMs are basically non-existant. I would take cash if I were you!

nigeria works on cash only, but Im sure you could draw from your credit card
