Money belts?

i'm going to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in a couple weeks and heard that pickpockets can be a problem. are money belts useful? what kind should i get and where can i get one?

I use one to stash my passport and extra cash away when on vacation. It just straps around my gut under my clothes. I found it at a local department store in their luggage/travel section
