8 wrestlers, a lot of ladders and one briefcase hanging more than 20 feet high from the ring floor; welcome to the famous money in the bank ladder match. Money in the Bank Ladder Match is a spectacle which is watched by millions of wrestling fans around the world. The idea of this match was coined by the great wrestler Chris Jericho and was then picked up by the WWE administration.
The main notion of this match was appealing as the rules said that 8 wrestlers will be selected after a rigorous round of fights and will participate in a ladder match. These wrestlers will be allowed to use ladders to capture a briefcase which will be hanging at a height of more than 20 feet above the ring floor. And it goes without saying that these ladders will be used as weapons on the bodies of different wrestlers. The first person to secure the briefcase will be called Mr. Money in the Bank and will have the right to cash into his achievement at any point of time till the next one year. This means that Mr. Money in the Bank can challenge any champion of WWE for a match at any time.
Now these all rules may seem straight forward but wait for a minute. Almost all the winners in the past Money in the Bank matches have amassed great fortunes and have changed the very direction of professional wrestling. The idea of cashing in the championship match is extremely lucrative as a championship match can even be held when the WWE champion or the World Heavy Weight Champion is injured or have fought a great match or is too tired to fight. This is what Jack Swagger did when he won the Money in the Bank Match in front of more than 80,000 wrestling fans at Wrestle Mania 2010 and then cashed in his opportunity against the World Heavy Weight Champion Chris Jericho who was unable to move after receiving a brutal spear by “Edge”. Jack Swagger called the referee and finished the match after delivering his finishing wrestling move on an already battered Chris Jericho. There was Jack Swagger standing as the new World Heavy Weight Wrestling Champion.
Though it may be easy to cash in the Money in the Bank power, winning the wrestling match can be one of the most difficult things on the planet. Wrestlers put their careers on the line when they compete in the Money in the Bank ladder match. The difficulty level is much more than normal one on one wrestling matches as competing wrestlers are given an open invitation to use ladders as weapons of mass destruction. Holding a ladder can mean that the wrestler can knock down his opponent without even going near him. But the real danger comes when a wrestler tries to climb a ladder to capture the briefcase as his 7 opponents try to throw the ladder down. Competitors who felt from a ladder occasionally suffered grave injuries as it is difficult to stand again after falling from such a height.
Wrestling fans still remember the days when the great high flyer, Rob Van Dam won the Money in the Bank match. He fell from the top of the ladder so many times that when he finally secured the briefcase, it was difficult for him to even move on his feet. However after all this pain and punishment the reward is great as the wrestler can cash in his achievement at any point in the next one year. Great wrestlers like Edge and C M Punk have both won this match twice in their lives and always successfully cashed in to become WWE or World Heavy Weight Wrestling Champions. In next Wrestle Mania in 2011 many young and talented superstars will put their careers and bodies on the line in Money in the Bank Ladder Match but there will be only one who will be called Mr. Money in the Bank.
