both because it is important for you to have money so you have food water and a roof over your head  but you should always be happy because when you are happy it makes other people happy

Here you ask it under "Investing" category, so I would say money. I would have the same answer if you posted it under "food & drink", "games", "dining out" or "travel. However, if you posted the question under "philosophy", "society & culture", or "family & relationships" I would have said "happiness".

Happiness, you can't buy it but it makes life more worth living than money.

To me it is a two sided question. Happiness is more important. But for me to be happy, I'd like to be financially independant as in no debt and the ability not to have to work.

Money can help buy this happiness, but of course happiness is different things to different people. By being financially independant, I would have the time to do the things I enjoy, spend time with family, and become involved in my local community.
