Money to charge?

I want to take a babysitting job and I'm not sure how much I should ask for them to pay...apparently they pay well but I'm not sure how much to ask. There are 3 kids...one is in first grade and he is a boy (he's kind of a handful)...another is a second grader and he is a boy...and there is a girl and she is a 4th grader...she is supposed to be really sweet so I think I can handle it. I would be working from 8-5 or around that time every work day. Does anyone have a price that I should ask for?

  1. Our daycare is $3 per kid per hour so $9 hour at the very least.  WHat else will you do doing?  ANy cleaning ect... Add that in.  Day care is expensive.  I pay over $800 month and my son is in school most the day.

  2. Three kids who don't nap, right?  And 8 to 5 without a break is actually a 9-hour day.

Some of it depends on where you live, but in metro DC, I'd expect to pay you around $500/week - that's about $10/hour.

  3. when I babysat about five years ago the parents paid me $10/hr for their two kids. I am sure they have a price they are going to pay you, just ask them. If they are going to let you decide, shoot high, like $100/day or so and they will negotiate from there. Three kids is a lot, so make sure they don't rip you off

  4. I would see what the local daycare charges for 3 kids and then figure out your price from there...if you are watching 3 kids all day long...Monday-Friday...it would be fair for you to be paid about $350-$400 per week...just be fair and reasonable in determing your price.

  5. 1 kid-$10

    1 hour-$5(each kid)

    so that would about $600-$1000

  6. what we charge is $10 a day for 1 kid and $5 for every kid after that.

  7. I'd work with the parents and find out how much they can reasonably pay.  I babysit 5 hours a day (25 hours a week) for just 110 a week.  It's under 5 dollars an hour for 2 children.  It's extremely cheap, and I am NOT a teen.  The mother is single and does not have much money or family.  The children might be left without ANY care if it wasn't for me.

Please do work with families...It's so hard out there right now.  Obviously make sure it works for you too.
